Re: pocket word takes forever

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Interesting....

The ActiveSync 4.5 version is still in beta and it could have been
something to do with that but, like you, I doubt it. I've been on the
beta for a good while now and haven't seen this issue. Usually if it
is AS, everything is effected.

I am curious if this returns after you install the Adobe client. It
seems that I've seen more posts and gotten more email with issues
related to that application than most. Please post back if that
impacts the issue again.

Hi Clinton
It is indeed just pocket word, or I should say it was. The problem is
gone and I don't know why.

For some reason, that escapes me at the moment, I downloaded activesync 4.7
last week, uninstalled the old version 4.2, rebooted the desktop.

I have been having problems with my partnership for quite some time so I
thought might as well do a hard reset and start fresh on the desktop and
ipaq.

I noticed yesterday that the problem is gone (been using pocket excel and
almost nothing else for a week) I thought one of the programs on the ipaq
may have expired and was causing the slow down which is why I tried the
hard reset in the first place.

The programs I had on the ipaq were:
total commander mostly for looking at the contents of both memory cards at
the same time,

wizbar advanced which makes sure when i close a program it is really closed

xnview picture viewer it has an explorer type interface

cab installer found not useable

treesize - lets me know the size of each folder on my memory cards

acrobat reader,

ephemeris sun compass - I like to photograph sunset and sunrises and this
program tells me when they will happen even months in advance.

lightning distance calculator,

blimkeys - for typing on a moving bus and for designing your own keyboards,

hell chess, a backgammon game,

countsix - digital version of hatchmarks on prision cell wall,

t-day counter - countdowns the days, a suduko program by chris baker, there
was also a movie player but I can't seem to find it or remember the name of
it.

Now I have installed total commander, wizbar advanced and a new version of
adobe reader. And suduko.

I'm gonna play with fire and install some of those programs one at a time
and see if one of them caused the slowdown. and I will post my findings.

The slowdown could have been activesync but I use it so seldom, I only use
it to install new programs on the ipaq. I find a card reader much faster.

A lot of the programs i listed don't have anything to do with pocket word
(as far as i know).

Scott,

Have you verified that it is *only* Mobile Word causing this issue? If
you open up say Mobile Excel and do the same shut off/start up
process, does it too take a long time to open?

I'm curious because I've not seen any reports on any device of Mobile
Word having a memory leak (which is what it sounds like you are
describing).

If you hadn't done a reset of your device then I would say yes, it
could be a registry issue or 3rd party application issue. However, as
you know a hard reset it going to put everything back at factory
status and that should no longer be part of the issue.

Keep me posted,

Hi Folks
I have a 2210 or 2215 and a few weeks ago something happened. I
turn on the ipaq after it's been off for a few hours and it takes
about a minute to open a word or text document and size of the doc
doesn't seem to matter.

It has gotten to the point that I turn on the pda and just reset
without even trying to open anything.

The only program or changes that have been made before this started
was a suduko program was installed. It's one of those programs that
have there own folder and can be moved around. But I uninstalled it
just to be sure.

Also the first word or text doc that's opens up after a reset takes
about a half a minute to close. After the first doc is opened and
close everything runs fine until the pda is turned off and left for a
few hours then it all starts again.

I had an old backup file made before all this started and installed
it. Problem still there.

I did a hard reset and used the pda without any 3rd party programs.
Problem still there.

Could the problem be in the regristry?

Does a hard reset reset the regristry?

Thanks for your help!!

Scott
