trouble installing on Axim

For the past couple of days, I've been trying to install new software on my
Axim X51. The install program runs, the .cab file is copied to the device,
the installer on the device runs. I get a message telling me that the
installation was successful. Problem is, when I go to launch the newly
installed program, there's no sign of it anywhere. No icons in the Programs
launcher, nothing in the Start menu. In the case of a Today screen plug-in
(Spb ToPlay), nothing on the Today screen.
When I go into \Program Files to launch the program directly, there's no
sign of it in there, either.
Any way of fixing these phantom installs, or should I just do a hard reset
and start from scratch?
