THANKS to all the responses.
I think the bottom line is, what does one uses his or her PDA for?
If it is for any other purpose than as a PIM / Task manager, the latest
Pocket PC is certainly a better unit.
Pocket PCs are definitely far superior "gadgets" and Palm is simply pathetic
in comparison.
The short-sighted of Palm's manufacturer is just so obvious and frustrating.
However, my conclusion is, Palm OS is still much more convenient and
efficient as a PIM / Task Manager.
It has superb ability to sort tasks and categorize them and there is no
similar 3rd party software for Pocket PC that works like Palm's DateBk 6,
CanDo, ToDo Plus, Life Balance etc. Pocket Informant is good but is too
complicated for Task Management and people tend to spend a lot of time using
it rather than acting on their tasks. Syncing with PC and generally ease in
entering and retrieving data is also far smoother with Palm.
I hope that you would agree to the statement that "Palm is still the better
PDA for PIM/Task Management purpose but otherwise, Palm PDAs are pathetic as
a 'gadget" than most Pocket PCc." Any opposition to this ?
Regards,
Warren

I know this is supposed to be a topic that is discussed to excess.
Yet, I seem to have trouble finding "precise" and "objective" points on
this
topic after extensive web search.
I want to know WHY people who have changed from Palm OS to Pocket PC would
later change back to Palm OS.
For myself, I am very dependent on my PIM, especially my Tasks, Calendar,
Contacts and Memo (linked with Wordsmith and Word-to-Go)
1) I use Tasks / CanDo to create and list out the Tasks I need to do each
day
2) I use Calendar to keep my itinerary
3) I use Contact to manage an address book of over 2000 names
4) I use Memo for:
a) Journals
b) Analysizing decisions and plans
c) Listing out facts using Checklist then export it to Memos and then
create a Wordsmith --> MS Word Doc for archive in PC.
d) Compile list of facts
I have a Dell Axim X51v and a Dopod 838 (only sold in Hong Kong , HTC
equivalent in US).
I used to own a Palm TX and Treo 650.
I have Pocket Informant installed in my Dell Axim.
I changed to Pocket PC because
1) I am totally disgusted with Palm's lack of innovation and as my TX is
poorly assembled and is no longer working well, I decided to switch.
2) I was fed up with the regular resets and crashes in my TX
3) I find the layout and the overall design of Pocket PC much more
appealing to the eye.
4) I love the different word entry methods available in Pocket PC (versus
the terrible Graffiti II)
5) I can transfer Word documents and Excel files to-and-fro my PC and my
PDA
easier with Pocket PC
6) The fonts are beautiful in Pocket PC
7) I find the layout of Calendar in Pocket PC much more easy to read and
less prone to making mistakes with schedules
However, I decided that I need to change back because
1) Active Sync is much more tedious than Hot Sync
2) It takes 2 taps to create a task which can then be sorted by various
means and presented as a list in Palm. Nothing like this is possible with
PPC, which takes 6 taps to create a task.
3) Sometimes there is errors when I sync calendar entries from Outlook to
PPC. Palm OS is much simpler.
4) Notes is not a replacement for Memos
5) PPC is SLOWER than TX in all aspects
6) There is no equivalent softwares for CanDo, Bonsai, Wordsmith etc
Just want to know YOUR EXPERIENCE in this area
Contacts is still superior in PPC.
