I've tried to discover if this is a known issue, but haven't found
anything relevant, so if it is a FAQ I apologise in advance.
I recently installed Pocket Streets from Autoroute 2006 on my WM5 iPAQ.
A new item now appears on the Calendar (Pocket Outlook) menus, which I
assume means "Search on Map", but actually reads "Auf Karte Suche",
i.e. it is in German.
Funny. I believe the Engish version, when I used to use PStreets, was
"Find on Map."
I was back-translating the German text (using babelfish), and it
offered "search" rather than "find".
BTW, do you mean the Contacts menu? I don't recall PStreets addinb an
item to Calendar, but I could be wrong...
I did mean the Calendar menu, but I've since verified that Pocket
Streets adds an entry to both menus, Calendar and Contacts.
My iPAQ is configured for British English localisation, and even though
it is not a critical problem, I'd really like to find out why on earth
this one menu item is in German when everything else is English.
Beats me, but I once had a bluetooth CF card driver attempt to install a
"Send via Bluetooth" menu item in Japanese on my Dell Axim once. At
least I assume it was Japanese- on my (US) English Axim it just showed up
as unregognisable characters. Strangely, this was a reinstall. The
first time I installed it the menus were correct!
My "fix" was to search the registry (with any PPC registry editor) for
the characters, and replace the plug-in text with the text of my
choosing. In your case, search for "Auf Carte..." and change the entry to
"Find on Map".
I've done that now. Thanks for the tip. I changed the add-ins for
Calendar and Contacts. Now if I could only figure out why the add-ins
were in German in the first place ...
Has anyone seen kind of problem, or does anyone have any idea what
might cause it and how to fix it? It is only a cosmetic annoyance, but
an annoyance all the same.
Probably I one-time glitch. My registry trick should work if a removal
and reinstall of PStreets doesn't.>
Good luck!
Removing and re-installing had no effect. The registry edits did, of
course. Many thanks.
