Re: Categories, sort by

Pocket pc's are almost useless devices.

Compared to a palm they're almost as good at PIM
Compared to an alarm clock they're (well I could say) almost as good at
warnings about appointments
Compared to a dedicated Navman or Garmin navigator they're almost as good at
voice assisted directions while driving
Compared to an electronic typewriter they're almost as good at preparing
short reports
Compared to a Dictaphone they're almost as good at taking voice notes.
Compared to a book they're almost as good at providing reading material
Compared to an ipod they're almost as good at playing digital content (video
and audio)
Compared to a lappy they're almost as good at netting it at hotspots and
using skype
Compared to a memory stick they're almost as good at moving files about.
Compared to any number of other devices like camera's, phones, coffee makers
they just can't quite stack up

As I said they're not as good as any of these mostly cheaper devices.

My gripe is that if battery technology was better everybody would want one
they're that useful

You got me to smile about it though. I appreciate that. You gotta give me
some credit for being a ex-Palm user AND working at MS, right? ; -)

I'm trying to use the GTD system (David Allen) and this is definitely a
short coming. The funny part here is why isn't this category functionality
right there from the get go. I can't see going back to the Palm now, too
much invested in the pocket PC.

The short answer is that this functionality just isn't there in Mobile
Outlook. That's disappointing.

Let's hope both of our moods improve.

I was going to help you but then I saw the word Palm and realized there
would never be any pleasing you. You sir, are using a different
product.

Im just kidding. Mostly...

In tasks, at least on my PPC6700 under Menu, there's a Filter submenu
where I can choose to show the categories I want for Tasks.

For Notes, in your Pocket PC's My Document's folder make a Folder
within there called Category1 or something and then move notes that
will be in Category1 to the Category1 folder. Now when you look at
your Tasks tap in the upper right you can choose which "Folder" to
show.

You're welcome. I get this sneaking suspicion this won't be good
enough for you though. Maybe its my bad mood.

I want to view Tasks and Notes by category on my Pocket PC. How do I do
that? I do not want to install some other pim in order to do this. Palm
does
this straight away.
