Those settings are under
Start>Settings>Conenctions(tab)>Connections(icon)>Advanced(tab)
MPPE is the encryption protocol that PPTP uses, you may want to check your
watchguard and make sure that it's set for either 40 or 128 bits(I would set
it to 128bits). The windows mobile client can't negotiate it's MPPE
setting. I've had the hardest times getting vpn working with watchguard
firewalls. I can connect to the firewall but I can't get anything through
the tunnel.

wait wait wait
Where are those settings!?!?!
also!
my firewall (vpn) watchguard x 500 keeps telling me that MPPE is required
but not available every time that the Q tries to connect, any idea what
that means?

If yout want to use the wildcard to force all traffic through the vpn
tunnel you will have to enter it as *.*
this will make everything(except messenger) go through the vpn tunnel.
To match just the domain you would input *.domain.whatever
Now for your connections, you need to keep the option "Programs that
automatically connect to the internet should connect using" set to your
verizon wireless connection. The option "Programs that automatically
connect to a private network should connect using" should be set to the
vpn connection that you setup. If you added the vpn connection to the
existing verzion wireless connection you will need to remove the vpn
entry and create a separate vpn connection. Then when you use a netbios
address or a fqdn that's listed in your execptions, the connection
manager will then establish the vpn connection.

Alright, I got my motorola Q from my boss today, I was pretty
excited, previous to today I had never setup a VPN before; so I setup a
very simple PPTP VPN on my WatchGuard Firebox X 500.
I connected to the VPN from my laptop using my evdo card and I was
able to use it just fine, so I was like swellsville, I'm on my way! But
I noticed it really doesnt appear to work at all.
What took me about 10 seconds on Windows XP Professional to setup has
literally taken me 2 days now of struggling.
here is what I did, I went into the connections, vpns added a new VPN
with the exact settings I used in my PC, then I went into PIE and
changed the options to use 'Work' as the connection (Work is both A what
I called my VPN connection, and B what I told it to connect TO (connect
from the internet, connect to work).
So, I go into PIE and I type in the FQDN of our mailserver (exchange
2k3).
http://mail.domain.com/exchange
Doesnt work, then I read something about URL exceptions, I figure okee
dokee. So I add mail.domain.com to the list, I add the domain to the
list, I add every possible combination of characters I can think of to
the list even */*.
It still doesnt appear to ever initiate the PPTP connection as the
watchguard has a nifty window that shows who is connected.
Anyway, any help is appreciated as I am sure you're already aware.
Thank you!
Andrew
