Are you using a WEP/WPA key on your wireless router? Is that inputted into
your WiFi settings on your device?
Your IP address, I'm assuming, is coming from your router. It would be the
same as your desktop PC. How does your desktop PC get it's IP address?
No, upgrading your OS wouldn't help matters.

Clinton,
thank you very much for your reply
it should work, but it doesn't. The LED on the card is lighting and the
card seems to work fine. If I go to
settings>connections>advanced>network card- I can see that my
connection is "available"
is there anything i could have forgotten about in my router setting?
What about my IP- do I enter it anywhere? In such case I would expect
warning of a different kind- concerning bad settings or something like
this. But after I did what you had told me (i.e. verify that my
Internet Connection should use "MyISP"-) i still get message saying
"unable to connect: You have no modem entries created, AND no network
card present." In addition to that, I dont understand the word AND in
the message. What modem are they talking about? I dont need one, do I?
Isnt my WLAN card communicating with my ADSL router/modem enough? BTW
do you think upgrading OS could help? If so, is it possible to upgrade
OS (mobile windows 2003) on PPC?
thanks a lot
Pavel
