Re: IPAQ RX1955 or IPAQ 4150

Another vote for the 4150. The rx1950 is a big step backwards RAM- and
Bluetooth-wise. It's only at WM5 and the screen quality that it's better at.

RX1955
Thanks for your opinions
I have the rx3115 and am purchasing the rx1955 after testing it for
about an hour in the store.

The rx3115 is one of the best values on the market. I'm buying the
rx1955 only because the rx3115's digitizer is failing. I don't think
that is typical though, so I still highly recommend it. You'll find it
is plenty fast enough for anything most people wish to do with a PDA.
I purchased a 1GB high speed SD card for memory expansion, and load
virtually everything from there, so the low amount of memory included
on it is not a detriment.

I also purchased the Pocket Hack Master overclocking application. One
of its features, is a graphical history of the CPU load. With even
Windows Media Player 10 running in the background, the CPU was idling
away at about 7%. The low amount of RAM, low CPU speed all equate to a
fantastic battery life.

I did a lot of looking for a replacement and debated between the Dell
X51v, some mid-range models, and the rx1955. The memory capacity
really worried me because after loading the operating system, there is
only about 15 MB of RAM left. Well, it is enough. Most programs
aren't using more than about 2 MBs, and if you use Magic Button, it
really closes your application when you click on the X in the upper
right corner.

I did everything I could do to max out the memory. I opened numerous
programs at once. I loaded my favorite app, Pocket e-Sword and did a
full Bible search. When you do that, it must load the entire Bible
text, because if it is running in the background (not closed), about 10
MB of RAM is used. No matter what I did, the rx1955 didn't miss a
beat.

I was really tempted to pick up a hx2415 and a couple other similar
models, but the extra RAM eats up battery life, and while the extra CPU
power is nice, it isn't needed. Plus, they are considerably heavier
and bulkier. So in the end, I stayed with the rx1955.

I hope that helped.

Chris
