As far as Opera is concerned, it can be entirely relocated to storage
cards - you only need to keep opera.ini in the main memory and just rewrite
the paths in there.
Also, much as it has no settings dialogs, it's pretty easy to use swappable
ini files (using, say, a scripting language to just sap the config files
before (re)starting the app) to ease configuration change.
Opera is orders of magnitude better than any other web browser, speed-wise.
Today, I had to resort to the latest 3.3 TP version of NetFront. It was
unbearably slow compared to Opera, even in the text-only mode.

Thanks. I already understood that this is some kind of licensing problem,
not just restricted to PIE. I see nothing has changed much.
The best seems dumping PIE altogether. Unfortunately, the alternative
browsers aren't a real solution. Minimo works reasonable, but the
interface
is not very user friendly and it's a 10MB+ motherload, not only installed
on
a card, but in main memory as well. Opera looks good (but also has to
install a lot of components in main memory. I hate that lack of
customability.
I guess I just have to live with the minor annoyance - luckily not that
much
browsing on the iPAQ.
Thanks for the complete overview; much appreciated.
