Re: ipaq 5550 - wm2003 - active synch 3.8 and bluetooth

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

thanks

ended up giving up on it. I am now waiting for a cradle so
that I can do a USB synch.

Theissue with bluetooth may be my inexperience with the
setup and process though I think it was coorect, I even got
some info exchange via BT using the software that came with
the dongle.

No matter what I have tried to cannot get activesynch to
recognise that mt device is there, I can get AS to search
all the virutal ports etc.

Have just tried AS 4.1 and the interface is better but the
help files are inadequate.

So it is either me (quite possible) or a dodgy BT dongle -
should know in hte next couple of days

I think you are headed in the right direction. I seem to
recall Activesync
won't search above comm. 8. Now that it finds the port
though, I am at a
loss as to why it won't connect. Have you googled for
directions such as:
http://www.bluetoothnews.com/features/ActiveSync.htm

thanks Terry

that is the ports that activesynch looks at and advise
there
is no connection.

After re installing the software that came witht eusb
bluetooth adapter (which created 8 virtual serial ports
from
12 to 20) I reallocated ports 13 and 14 (which this
software
seemed to prefer) to ports 5 and 8 (which the PPC seems
to
like) and got a "flakey" connection with this - very
unstable tho it did work on a file transfer.

Active synch now searches on ports 1,2,5,8 but still
does
not find the PPC (activesynch does not find any of the
virtual ports created by the BT dongle software

It is unlikely that the pc Bluetooth will be on comm.
ports 1 or 2. Does the
Bluetooth driver not tell you which port is assigned
for
serial
communications?

I am not using a cradle and am trying to get a direct
connection from teh PPC and the PC, just installing
the
inf
file from the driver CD allows the devices to be seen
but
they cannot connect using active synch

There is no "connection" prompt when they can see
each
other, if I browse from the PPC the error is that
there
are
no services to connect to? even though the PC can be
seen as
part of this process

Using active synch from the PC the serial ports 1 and
2
are
searched but nothing is found.

I have a Ipaq 5555 - wm2003 and it works great with
bluetooth. I had trouble
trying to get both the desktop with Windows XP Pro
and
the
PPC properly
configured. Once I got it configured properly it
works
without problems.

I bought an IOGear Bluetooth adapter for my desktop.
It
came with a WidComm
Bluetooth Wizard that made it a little easier to set
up,
but I still had
problems. First of all, when I put the PPC in the
cradle
to sync using
ActiveSync only, it unconfigures the bluetooth setup
on
the desktop, and I
have to use the Desktop Wizard to reselect the
bluetooth
device and services
available to reactivate the bluetooth connection. I
use
a
password for
secure connection. The first time I connect via
bluetooth
configuration the
desktop will signal that the PPC is trying to
connect
and
I have to enter
the password I have chosen for the PPC.

I can't give a list of steps, but here is some
information
that may help
you:
On the PPC I go to Settings, Connections, Bluetooth.
(This
is the Bluetooth
for Windows CE Version 1.4.1 Build 60 by WIDCOMM.)
On
the
General tab the
Current Profile is Default. On the Accessibility tab
I
use
the ActiveSync
name of the PPC under Device Indentification.
Accessibility: Allow other
devices is checked, All devices selected, Other
devices
can discover me is
checked.Under File Transfer tab Enable Service is
checked.
Authorization
required is checked. My Shared folder is \My
Documents.
Under the
Information Exchange tab Enable service is checked.
Authorization is
required is checked. I don't use My Business card so
it
says none. Serial
Port tab Enable service is checked. Authorization is
required is checked.
Authentication (Passkey) required is checked. Ports:
Inbound is 5 Outbound
is 8. Dial-up-networking tab: Enable service is
checked.
Authorization
required is checked. (This is used because I have a
plug
in modem that I use
sometimes for directly dialing my ISP.) Options: Com
Port
1, Baud rate
57600, Hardware (Rts/Cts). Personal Network Server
tab:
Enable service and
Authorization required is checked.

Using the Desktop Wizard I select the option that
says:
I
want to find a
specific Bluetooth device and configure how this
computer
will use it's
services. Start bluetooth on your PPC and the next
page
will show you the
available devices. Select your PPC and the next page
will
give you a list of
the services available. Select ActiveSync and
continue
with the
configuration.

Good luck!

thanks for any assistance

I have the subject configuration as above and I
cannot
get
the ipaq to synch using bluetooth.

I am using a usb to bluetooth adapter that
"sometimes"
can
see my pc and sometimes my pc can see the ipaq.

I am thinking it must be the com port allocation
in
the
setup (somewhere). The blietooth adapter wants to
use
serial
A or B (no numbers) The bluetooth adapter software
appears
to have allocated com port 13 and 14 to the
device.

The ipaq appears to want to use com port 5 or 8
and
activesynch 3.8 wants to search on com 1 and 2

The first question is can I use a usb.bluetooth
adapter
with
an ipaq running win CE 4.2 1.10.10 eng dated
24/3/2004 ?

Any good links to show me the process

thanks

Geoff
