If you want to go overboard you can buy a smart caddy for a laptop HDD (mine
has a nokia battery good for 4 hours of read/write), that way you can get an
app like card export for your PDA and need only have a 1-2 gig card. when
done listening to one playlist connect the hdd directly to the PPC and off
load then upload more tunes 80 or more gig and completely mobile. Great for
backups too, can be used with cameras or a card reader. My caddy interface
only reads 8.3 file names but when transferred files maintain full length. I
store my music in folders so it doesn't bother me.
Bev already helped with the power adapter and he has said before about
making AA battery packs for the road (or sea).
MP3 seems to be the format of choice since the early nineties but as bev
stated beware. there are various reports on tcpmp handling mp4 so give it a
try.

Trying to find a 1st world answer to a 3rd world problem aint easy.
Trying to find a 3rd world answer to a 1st world problem isn't a walk in the

really replacement devices? <<1) Music - I have an iPod Mini that goes everywhere! Are the WM5
Potentially... at the moment, the best option is to carry a quiver of 1gig
cards to have all of your music at hand.
the WM5 device will support. What are these and which offer the besta) First of all I need to convert my iPod library to a format that
compromise between quality and storage requirements. <<
Careful... there are a number of apple stories about the devices wiping
all the music when the bond between ipods and itunes was broken... google

imho, best option for the ppc is wma although mp3 works and is a more
common format.

any 5vdc source will work and for your boat, recommend a 12->5v adapter
rather than an inverter... there are a number of devices that use mini usb
connectors for charging, so there are a number of ac and dc adapters
around. Personally, I created an adapter cord so I could use any of my
growing stock of 4mm coax power jacks which have been a "semi standard"
power connector since the original ipaq days.
