I think a lot of your problems are device/manufacturer related. I've got a
Dell Axim that came with WM5 pre-installed, and I've got none of the
problems that you mentioned. I have a couple of (relatively minor) software
compatibility issues, but I've come to expect that sort of thing with a
major OS release.

The ability to set up a proper TCP/IP connection over a USB cable is a very
cool thing. It can be incredibly useful, and I figure developers are going
to have a field-day playing with it. As with any other network connection,
you need to set up your firewall to allow access to the required ports or
whatever. That's standard practice, and not actually a bug.

You're sure about that? A roommate of mine is using ActiveSync on my PC
with a limited account, and he's got no trouble with the program. Maybe
downloading the most recent version from MS will help.

These two sound like defective hardware rather than OS issues. I'd suggest
taking it up with the manufacturer. Maybe they've released a patch or
something. (Dell did recently, and it fixed some issues on my Axim)

Yes... Many running programs will make any system slower. Tap Start -->
Settings --> System --> Memory -->
Running Programs, and stop the programs you don't want from there. Some of
them might be in the unit's start-up folder, others you might need to fiddle
with the registry to stop.

hardware issue. The manufactorer probably used a cheap speaker or audio
chip to cut corners. Not an OS issue.

There isn't one built in to the OS by default. This is something that the
manufacturer of the device usually supplies as a result. Both my Dell and
the Toshiba that I had before it came with back-up software installed in
ROM. Again, you should talk to the manufacturer. Maybe they have a
solution on the CD or on their website.

Ok... This is an OS thing... Microsoft probably decided that separating
storage memory from the memory used to run applications in was a good idea.
Actually, it was. It's much closer to the way a PC operates with RAM and a
hard drive, and means that the OS can use both more effectively than it
could if they were connected.

This is a manufacturer issue. Why on earth are you listing it in your list
of software bugs?

Do you really need a desktop on a palmtop device? Seriously. You're
reaching here.

Get yourself a copy of PocketPlus from Spb. The program provides the
functions you mentioned, plus a bunch of others, and does the job pretty
well.

This stuff's installed in ROM as part of the OS image. You're not
*supposed* to delete them.
