iPAQ rx3115 ocasionally won't power-on until reset

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Since some days ago, my iPAQ rx3115 has been having a strange behavior:
sometimes, specially after some hours of inactivity, pressing the power-on
button has no effect and I am forced to soft-reset it in order to power it on.

As you can understand, this behavior is annoying at least, because I have to
start the programs I had suspended, and it is possible that I can lose
information that has not been saved. I have already lost a couple of entries I
didn't bother to save before I switched off the device, not knowing it wouldn't
power-on again without a soft-reset.

I have had a lot of thinking, searching for what did I installed/made to the
configuration in the past days, and I only can think on a couple of things, that
may or may not be related to the problem. I am describing them anyway:

1) After reading an article about the default settings in an Pocket PC, in which
when the system reaches a "minimum" battery level (enough power to keep the RAM
content alive for at least 72 hours) it goes power off and refuses to power-on
again unless it is connected to the charger. But the article also pointed out
that some devices, specifically HP, provide a user-configurable standby time
safety level. After reading this, I found that in my device, the power applet,
"Standby" tab, there is a setting called "Standby Period (appx. hours)". There
is a slide that goes from 24 to 96, being 72 the default. I tried moving this
slide to 24 (to see if I can take more advantage of the battery power). I am not
sure. but it seems like after this configuration change I have started
experiencing the power-on issue. I already put back the default setting to 72,
but the issue remains.

2) One program I have installed more or less recently is the Resco NewsBreak
trial. I have observed that this program has created some entries in the
notification database, including one for an TimeChange event called
NewsBreakWakeUp.exe

What do you think, guys? What recommendations can you give me? Have someone else
experienced this problem?

I am avoiding a hard-reset. There is just too much work involved in getting back
all my settings and programs to my liking. However, if the problem persist, I
will have no other option.

Thanks for your time.
