Re: Stowaway BT impressions

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

That's interesting as it is clearly prohibited...here (US). The restriction
is based on devices that transmit, and BT certainly does that. Even some
recievers are restricted such as broadcast radio and TV receivers due to the
rf oscillators in them that are used for down-converting the RF signal and
can radiate. What it says on American's site is "Devices with transmitting
capabilities may only be used if the transmit capability is turned off and
can be verified by a flight attendant." (
http://www.aa.com/content/travelInformation/duringFlight/onboardTechnology.jhtml;jsessionid=KKUNAWA05BRA3EAJJMXU1C2QBFFSWVMD?anchorEvent=false )
That's essentially the same wording most US airlines use.

I expect it is just lack of knowledge on the part of some flight crews as to
what BT actually is.

On a different note, BT doesn't cause any issues and neither does WiFi. The
latter is quite obvious as more technologically advanced air carriers than
we find in the US, like Lufthansa and BA, already support WiFi broadband
connections on many filghts. BT operates at the same frequency as WiFi and
at substantially lower levels and as such will cause no more issues than
WiFi.
