Some routers enable GRE Protocol 47 traffic with a "PPTP Pass Through" or
"VPN Pass Through" setting. Some require a manual Port 47 configuration and
yet others do this automatically if TCP Port 1723 is enabled. The bottom
line is this can be highly problematic with some consumer grade routers and
can be highly dependent on firmware in the router.
You can run a VPN Traffic test as detailed near the end of this page to see
if you can pin point the problem area..
