Excel can't find files on CF card

I use a Dell Axim X5 with both CF and SD cards. For convenience, I wanted
to move my "work" files from the SD to the CF and keep only movies and other
media type files on the SD. For some reason, I cannot make Excel "find" the
spreadsheets on the CF card. I can use file explorer to locate them and
click on them...Excel then is opened with the appropriate spreadsheet but,
as soon as I close it again, it doesn't show up. I've changed the default
"save" location to the CF card but it doesn't seem to matter.

To double check, I made copies of the three spreadsheets from the CF card
and pasted them to the SD card and, voila, they show up fine.

Am I missing something? I can't find any way to "open" or have Excel locate
these files on the CF card.

Help, anyone?
