Usually happens if you have some sort of polling program loaded, such
as automatically trying to sync ActiveSync remotely, or checking other
email accounts, or even logging in to MSN Messenger automatically. I
have turned on the option to automatically sign in to MSN Messenger and
the device will turn itself on (light the screen) to attach
occassionally.

Have you by chance enabled Bluetooth or 802 wi-fi and it is searching
for access points or another device?
