I did some more research on this and on www.ipaqhq.com forums there is an extensive thread about other users reporting serious performance issues too.

Anyone having a concern around this should check out the hx4700 forum there and the thread "The hx4700 has problems!!!!!!!!" of real interest is the poll of 153 users.
