You tried what?
It's not clear- you've given a very vague single answer to a number of
things Beverley has said. Messing around with the card can make things
harder- don't do anything at all with the card until you've attempted
recovery- not deframent especially, but no scandisk or similar. No automated
attempted repair tools- they can move things around and overwrite what you
want. And *don't* use the card at all until you've recovered what you want
or given up.
*Don't run scandisk until you've tried recovery first- this can scramble
things.*
If you have it is still worth trying. If you've ran a defrag you have little
chance, and don't write anything to the card before trying the recovery- the
space marked as free is used on a first available basis so you could
overwrite the data- a defrag will overwrite the spaces where the data was,
re-write the FAT, and reorder things making recovery very hard/impossible,
even for a professional.
Desktop utilities are the best way to recover the files- you just access the
directory and the names of any deleted files have the first letter altered
to a Sigma (- just change the sigma to an alpha-numeric character. It points
to the first data sector in the FAT and will recover what is there up to the
first EOF marker it comes to. If parts of the disk have been written to you
may get a larger or smaller file size, and whether you can do anything with
one scrambled like this depends on the file type.
I don't know of any ppc tools that can do it but there may be some. PC tools
are more established and may be the better choice. I have an old Norton that
does this, check the freeware/shareware sites for other tools -or even a web
search- there are a few choices, find one that suits you. PC tools should be
able to access the card via a card reader.
