My Compaq Aero 2130 Pocket PC (upgraded from H/PC) and Sony Ericsson T636
mobile phone will go through the serial cable or infrared connection process
just fine. That is, the following menus are set and seem to work:

The Connections folder is set up with a GPRS profile with username and password
provided by my mobile service provider. The speed is right. SLIP is off, as is
IP Header Compression. Software Compression is on and the provider's username
provides it. The server provides the name server, but there is never any data
in the name server displays. That is, I can put the name servers in, but if I
go back to server provided name servers, they disappear. The local IP address,
provided by the server, will persist when it is not selected.

I can select Generic Hayes Compatible on COM1 or Generic IRDA Modem as
appropriate. The number to dial is *99***1#, and on dialing, the phone lights
up and says "Connecting". The Pocket PC dislays, oh what is it, "Connecting",
"Authenticating User", "User Authenticated", and "Connected" with Cancel or
Hide Status.

But then Interent Explorer won't work. I have Cambridge's vxUtil and can't ping
or lookup.

What gives?

My theory is, I need a script interpreter to setup the modem when the phone is
first positioned. You see, I have viewed the modem log available in the Control
Panel and this log is determined by the settings in the Sony Ericsson Dial Up
Networking Wizard. Backspacing and deleting all extranous data, in particular
each modem OK in reply, I have eight AT commands that are supposed to be sent
to the modem *before* ATD*99**1#. I have tried sending them one at a time by
clipping the saved, edited log file in Pocket Notepad, and pasting into the
Dial Up Terminal "Before Dialing". This is unmanageably slow even with 14 MB
free.

And I can't paste all eight modem commands into the terminal window. This would
overwhelm the modem. It takes a finite time to process each command and until
an OK is received at the Pocket PC, it's not wise to proceed.

Is there a script interpreter that will send each command at 115,200 bps, wait
for an OK, then exit, leaving the connection live so I can activate the
Connections folder connection, which sends only ATD*99***1#?

It works just fine on the notebook when the modem commands are sent. I see them
in the log. They change depending on which profile I generate with the Dial Up
Networking Wizard. I only need one, the GPRS profile, have already generated
it, and have it on the Pocket PC, but there is no way I can find to send it to
the modem one line at a time, waiting for an OK after each line.

On your reply post requesting this profile, I will post it for your
consideration. Until then, if one reader can simply point me to a cheap utility
that will script the modem (I don't need a login script, this is a modem setup
script), I will be online and happy.

I'm downgrading to a T237 today. I like the rubber buttons, the ring tone, and
the joy button, and don't need the T637's camera or like its buttons. I love
the T637 joystick, organizer, and recorder but only need the organizer, which
the T237 has.

I find I have no use for the modem in the T637. 9600 bps is too slow, and I
won't be acessing any other servers, just IP, provided by my provider.

By the way, I use CommuterPage.com/handheld while riding the bus. Nice resource
for those near DC. Got one in your city?
