Thanks for the reply JD.

I haven't tried what you suggested, but since my last post I've tried a
few other things.

I was not happy with NAV 2004 Pro for a number of reasons including
this one, so I'm going to try and get a refund, and in the meantime I
purchased Mcafee Viruscan 8 and installed it. After un-installation of
NAV, the problem above still existed, and after installation of Mcafee,
the problem still existed.

I've narrowed the problem down to ZoneAlarm Pro, but I can't tell
whether it's a problem with ZoneAlarm itself, or a combination of
ZoneAlarm and the Antivirus installations (I don't remember having the
problem with ZoneAlarm before installing NAV). When ZoneAlarm is
removed from the system, the problem goes away.

JD, do you have ZoneAlarm installed by any chance?
