I have had this problem in the past, I now backup my Ipaq locally to the SD
card, therefore I should be able to restore all the settings including
device ID to prevent the Ipaq not being recognised via active sync.

Got to Start, Settings, System then select Backup Utility

To open the storage card lick on Open in the bottom left hand corner, then
choose Storage Card, then clcik on Start. That bit is simple, and I assume
that I now will be able to restore in exactly the same way although I have
not had cause to try it yet!

If you do not have an SD card, try to take a backup of your Ipaq before you
fill up its internal memory but after you have created a new active sync
ID - once you have restored th basic settings you can connect to the pc and
do a proper restore from there. I dont know how big a file this will create,
it may take too much and then stop you loading programs or storing data

I hope this helps

Good Luck
