Spammy,
When HP says "repair" on a new unit, that really means "if its a easy,
well known, cost effective fix, then we will fix it, if its not, then we
will replace it" Was told that by a supervisor of the tech group and it
makes sense as they want to keep replacement/repair costs low.
First time I called, that is what they said about the "repair", I told
them that was not acceptable to me for a brand new unit and reminded them
about all the class action suits that were filed against HP with the Jornada
5XX series not having the correct resolution to them and threw in for good
measure that this is almost a daily post on this board about the units and
yellow screens and to me its a bad batch or design flaw (HP gets very touchy
if you mention "design flaws" <g> ) So I was put on hold for about 30
seconds and got a manager on the phone asking for my address so they could
send out a prepaid UPS mailer. Model returned was not my original (checked
serial numbers).
So..as Nike (the shoe company) would say, "Just say NO"
Try that approach and see if it works, if they refuse you can always
push it harder and ask for their fax number so you can make a formal legal
complaint or.....If repair is the only option, then take it. HP repair is
usually excellent and fast and in your case would probably just mean they
put a new display on it as there is really not to much to debug. The screen
either works or it doesn't.
Buying Online it really depends on who you got it from. If its
MobilePlanet, Staples, OfficeMax, Office Depot or Amazon they will almost
always take it back. Others are hard to say.
Hope that helps a little.
Tedd
