That's the built-in program, but a couple of ways work for me.

Try a different Calendar type program- something like Pocket Informant is
good, and a lot more 'informing'.

Or there are some programs which can transfer diary events to the Today
screen- try programs like tAgenda , Calendar+. These are good, and offer
slightly different views, but all are good- TaskPlus is a little more
restricted but nice.
There are other programs that do this kind of thing too, but I think I
prefer tAgenda - small neat display- where Calendar+ gives more detail (I
didn't know you could get a scroll bar on the Today screen until I tried
Calendar+).

I'm not at my main machine at the moment so don't have links, but if you get
problems finding some post and I'll gig them out (or someone else may post
them).
