Been a mobile device person from the early sharp days, still think its the
future and said so to VP windows team last time in Redmond. Don't think he
appreciated my comments, anyway. What will kill it is the inconsistency of
various vendors in supplying the base platform and their extensions or not.
Its like the old day with PC with every vendor having a slightly different
flavour.
You really don't know what the differences are until you buy the bloody
device, very frustrating. I bought the first HP Jornada 680e thinking I was
buying an upgrade path, see previous grumble. It still works and is great
when travelling but none of current software will run on it. Talk about
stifling a product in the marketplace.
I haven't been able to get a backup from one device to work with another,
eg. HP Jornado > Dell >XDA II > HP2210. They all attempt and error at the
end of the process. I constantly push PPC to my executives but until the
integration and consistency improves it isn't going to make it in
large-scale enterprises except in niche pockets (so to speak).
Enjoy, Wayne
