Like you I want true ipsec so I can ditch my pptp server and connect
directly to my ipsec vpn firewall. I'm not sure why you are having issues
with pptp though, I connect to 3 different pptp networks daily two are
running windows 2000 advanced server and the third is running on a firewall.
I did try to make a vpn connection while cradled and it didn't work. I made
sure that internet passthrough in active sync was set to "internet" but it
didn't work. As far as security l2tp is suppose to be very secure
incorporating both security aspects of pptp and ipsec. The problem I've
found with l2tp is that it won't work through nat(suppose to be possible
with next 2000 sp and it works already with windows server 2003) but until
that time I have no choice but to use pptp.
