I had to reply when I read the SanDisk
bashing. I have 4 SanDisk cards that have
faultless operation. I have had problems
which other brands. There was one bad SanDisk
lot from China a long while ago, but the
company stands behind its product. If it's an
early life failure, return it to where you
bought it. If it fails in the
first 5 years, SanDisk will replace it. I
never had to use this guarantee, but I have
read others have with the support of SanDisk.

Depending on where you shop, SanDisk offers
the lowest price per megabyte. The new
SanDisk ultra flash are very fast for camera
applications, and SanDisk extreme cards are
guaranteed work at very low and very high
temperatures. I am shopping now for a 512MB
SanDisk card, waiting for the prices to lower
as the 1GB cards come to market.

It depends too how you treat the memory
cards. I have formatted the SanDisk cards as
vfat and ext2 on a linux device, with
flawless performance. Pocket PCs allow
hotplug of cards, but linux may not. If my
linux device crashes with the cards mounted,
I run a file system check on the cards after
bringing the system back up. This corrects
any errors in the linux file system caused by
failure to properly unmount the cards. With a
pocket pc there is no need to be concerned
about that.

>From personal experience, I recommend SanDisk
as one of the leading quality manufacturers
of Flash memory. Don't avoid them.
