In short both.
If you notice the e740/e75x cradle the charging is done through the usb
connector as their is no connection made to the dc in jack when it is cradled.
I hve 2 syncing cables in addition to my cradle. One is a genuine toshiba
cable. which blocks the dc in jack on the bottom of the pda but has a dc in
jack that a 5 volt power source can be connected to. (presumably intended
for the charger that's included with the pda) The second cable I own is an
after market that allows syncing and charging with just one cable but does
so by drawing power from the usb port of the host pc. I've used it without
problems but I do have concerns. The power requirements of the pda according
to the label calls for 5 volts at 2 amps. If the pda were ever to draw the
full 2 amps I would fear damage would be likely to the host pc (in my case
an expensive laptop) and not the pda. So in summary, both types of cables
are available but, it's a use at your own risk situation.
