Re: Wireless data plan for WM 6 Classic

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

from a reveiew at
http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/18/ipaq-210-finally-ships-gets-reviewed/
it appears to have wifi, bluetooth, and usb connections...
unfortunatly, verizon disables the bluetooth/use the phone as a modem
connection (as you found out)....

Do you want to use the PDA online anywhere the cellphone will work, or would
you be okay with a phone line connection?

While verizon itself works as an ISP, I don't know if others do.....And for
that matter I have one of my own so don't even bother with verizons

I do things 3 different ways (have more, but at least these are ones I have
used in the last year while traveling, and would be happy to give you more
info/links on whatever you deem would fit your needs best...

Just a quickie (not the only ways by any means, and no idea if those would
work for your needs, just ones I have used and know they absolutely work)
First, I have a nationwide ISP (earthlink) that i can use with dial up or
direct connect by BT/Network/WiFi
(hotspots-local-business-airports-citywide-etc/or from other peoples
computers with their webmail... Gives me one place where all my mail is
always at and i can get to it by whatever means are handy....

As for the iPAQ, i use a wiflyer (http://www.wiflyer.com/StoreFront.bok)
basically a travel router with built in dial-up modem
i also use a Kyocera KR1 router (cool video about it at
http://reviews.cnet.com/Kyocera_KR1_Mobile_Router_powered_by_D_Link/4660-3319_7-6547124.html )
To link it to my cellphone via Bluetooth, even though I have verizon, I got
an Altell e815 off ebay, activated it on my verizon account, and can use the
phone as a bluetooth modem.

Wherever I am, I always have my email on my ISP, and can access it from my
pda/laptop/customers desktops/libraries/etc..

To give you a better answer, need some detail on where you plan to go (ie
staying in major areas, salesman that goes to rural areas, stay in motels
with WiFi, drink coffee at starbucks/eat at Mcdonalds (both have wifi but
costs unless you have t-mobile, not a good provider if you will be in rural
areas), going to analog phone areas like most of Alaska etc, I live and
travel in my RV so I have been a lot of places and can give you a more
defined/refined suggestion if you can narrow down the parameters for me)

When you talk about email and web surfing, be aware that those are two very
different critters.. email you can use slower connects, but web surfing
sucks at low speed, so what percentage do you want of each? (I do email from
anywhere, and do the webbrowsing etc when I have a higher speed connection)

At any rate, getting it working should be no problem, you just tried it with
the one combination that will absolutely not work (bluetooth and a verizon
phone)
Got cable TV at home? Landline phone? You can also get DSL or cable internet
at home, and very cheaply make your home a "hotspot"... (I like laying in
the hammock in the backyard and surfing :) Some providers have access when
you are travelling, so You can essentially have a discount (both network
access and dial-up so you don't need another ISP)

I am on Verizon. I'm happy to do whatever will make this work -
cheap/free or whatever. I'm willing to switch to a different cell
provider if necessary to get a phone and plan that will let me access
the internet with my ipaq 210 when I need to.

Thanks for your help

I really need some help....

I just purchased a HP 210 IPAQ. I'm looking for a data plan to use
with this so that I can get internet and email when I travel.

As an alternative I have a LG VX8700 cell phone with Bluetooth
capabilities. I tried to pair the two and use my cell phone to
access the internet on my ipaq. No luck. When I pair, and try to
access the internet I get a "page not found" error. I have my
wireless plan through Verizon who says that they don't support
using this phone as a modem.
I've asked several wireless data plan providers about a plan for my
ipaq and can't find one that says that they can support it.

I would appreciate any help that you can offer in finding a wireless
provider that will support my ipaq 210 and/or what I need to do to
get to the internet using my LG VX8700 cell phone.

I'm frustrated and really need your help.

Thank you so much

Okay, so you have a PDA (pda doesn't do voice) and a cell phone (that
model usually doesn't do data), but you also have no internet
provider for mail/news... You can browse the internet with the wifi,
or do email AND browse the internet via the BT/cell, however, if you
want to save email, you will most likely need a mail server
somewhere (there used to be lots of free mail sending services, but
due to spammers, those are very hard to find nowadays)...

What provider do you use for your cellphone?

Do you want to do it cheap/free or just make it work?
