Re: Losing WEP key in iPAQ Wireless Manager

Perhaps I am not making myself clear. This problem has nothing to do with
the router. The problem is why after configuring a wireless network on my
hx2490 iPAQ I lose the WEP key? For example, lets say my wirless router's
SSID is "BOB" and it's WEP key is 1111111111. I configure these settings
into my iPAQ using the iPAQ wireless manager software. If for some reason I
can not connect to the router (it's turned off, or not connected to the
modem, whatever) I go back to the wireless iPAQ manager (settings| network
key) and find that the WEP is gone? I thought by configuring the SSID and
WEP key through the iPAQ manager then it would retain the settings forever.
It doesn't...why? How can I make it do so?

OK, this sounds like a router problem.

Check for, and use if necessary, latest firmware.

If that doesn't help, try another router of a different
brand.

I know this sounds dumb, but it took me trying 4
different routers BEFORE I found one that would
work without issues with the collection of stuff I have
around here.

In particular, I stay away from Linksys and dLink.
I have the least amount of problems with Netgear.

No I don't mean "reset". I mean simply cycling the power. I thought by
adding a new connection with the iPAQ wireless manager it would retain the
WEP key. But there are times when I won't be able to connect to my
wireless
network because the WEP key is no longer there. I'd like to know if there
is
a way to keep the WEP reagardless of power cycling the router or other
connection problems.

With my hx2490 iPAQ, after I set up a wifi connection using the iPAQ
Wireless
Manager if I reset the wireless router the WEP key disappears when I
attempt
to reconnect. Why does that happen and is there a way to prevent it
from
happening?

Reset the router as in back to factory defaults?

If so, there's no WEP key defined on the router,
when you try to connect to it and the 2490
sees that it doesn't need one, it considerately
removes it for you.

Don't try to connect to the router after a reset
UNTIL you've re-entered the key
