If Sprint sold you the 'phone as a modem plan', did their rep offer to
explain how you were going to use that? (on the web of course there
wouldn't have been an explanation, but when I got my T-Mobile stuff they
wouldn't even let me order anything that wouldn't work on the phone I said
I had)

That said, there are often available cables that can hook between the
devices, in lieu of BT, but that is probably more than you want your wife
to deal with.

The BT option though isn't typically tough once you do your initial
pairing. Normally you would just try to open a web site and a text box
pops up asking if you want to connect via BT. You click yes/OK, and it
does the rest, connecting to the phone, dialing it, etc. That assumes BT
is on, on the devices, but I have normally left mine that way when I used
this method. Bottom line is that use isn't that tough. I normally didn't
need to take my phone out of my pocket or backpack to get connected.

CF GPRS card is easier of course, but you would be somewhat limited in
phone carrier. A Sprint setup is a Sprint setup. ISP is somewhat
irrelevant. Sprint (or whoever) would get you on the net. You don't need
an 'isp' at that point, though you might want someone to provide you
e-mail. That can be a free account if you wish, or if you have a home isp
you can generally use that e-mail via a web interface.

Is the whole point to get the Dell connected, or just get your wife
connected. If the latter, many phones have fairly decent web/mail/etc.
capabilities in their own right. A PPC phone like the Q, or T-Mobile MDA
(Cingular 8125) might be something you could consider. A better phone
with BT, will probably have some capability in any case. Quick internet
things like checking an address, weather, flight time, can probably be
done right on the phone, reserving the Axim lashup for things that need
more input or the larger screen.

this is exactly what i needed to know :).
i will recommend BT to her, she will use her phone for email
and the PDA with its big screen for the web. We have a lot of suppliers
that have web sites
and the bigger screen will make it much easier for her to see.
right now i am thinking i should have just got her one of the PDA's from
sprint but i also knew she wanted something really nice so i beefed up the
PDA as much as i could and i think it has to blow away anything sprint has..
all i can say is that i did my best and I hope she is happy.

thanks to all for your help.

John
