No guarantees, but you are probably going to have to manually assign ip addresses to both the laptop and the device. I strongly suggest you also google for combos such as
POCKETPC ADHOC
POCKETPC AD HOC
An easy start is to connect both devices to your access point, then determine what addresses and gateways they are assigned by the access point...
in the ppc, install vxUtil or vxIPConfig from http://Cam.com to find these
on the pc, drop to dos and type IPCONFIG
then, on the ppc turn off wifi
start/settings/connections/networkadapters/usespecificIP
On the pc it will be under the network adapter
enter the same addresses you found using a successful access point connection.
