Re: How to set a static IP in WM 5.0 on a PPC-6700 ?

Hi David,

Ok, I just got back into town and applied your solution which WORKED!
I thought I had tried everything, but the "tiacxwln compatible wireless
ethernet adapter" settings option eluded me.

I REALLY feel that this answer should be inserted into the online help & how
to documentation for Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphones here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/smartphone/default.mspx
becuase this information was way too hard to get a hold of, I knew there HAD
to be a way to set a static IP and so I searched the internet hi and low to
no avail.
Luckily I knew where to ask this type of question, others may not be so
tech savvy.

Thank You for the correct answer, I do appreciate it!

Turn Wi-Fi on;

From the Today screen (or page)

Start (menu) | Settings | Connections (tab) | Network Card Icon | Network
Adapters | and look for the adapter with wireless in it. Tap on the
adapter, and you should be taken to the IP Address (tab) where you can enter
a Static IP address when you select "Use specific IP address" Note you'll
need to enter your DNS servers on the "Name Servers" tab. Tap ok until you
reach the X, tap it to return to the today screen. From the Today screen
soft reset. Note that if you go back to check values before you soft reset
it is normal for them to be reset.

Hello,
I have a PPC-6700 and it was a struggle just to get it connected to my
wireless router (SMC2804WBRP-G).

First, I had to disable all security on my SMC
No WEP / WPA, no MAC filter, no firewall, then I enabled UPnP, DHCP and
SSID broadcast.
Only after all that was I able to connect my PPC through the WLAN.
One by one I started enabling security features until I found what the
"problems" were.
I could not get WPA working at all, it seems as though I might as well
give
up on WPA (unless I buy a $300.00 LEAP enabled Access Point)

I was able to set up my SMC as WEP only, 802.11b only, with MAC filtering,
WEP 128 bit and disable SSID broadcast.. but it's not too hard to crack
WEP,
clone a MAC and get DHCP to serve up an IP. I'd rather use WPA which is
"somewhat" safer but.. anyway

First and foremost what I need to do is:
Enter a Static IP in the WM 5.0 wireless connection manager and "not" use
DHCP. (after that I'll work on the WPA issue)
DHCP messes up the IP's, virtual server, port mapping, ect... on my
network
(laptop and the 3 other PC's)

What happens is:
Whenever I shutdown my PC's for the night, they get assigned a different
IP
(from my address pool of 5 Ip's) by the DHCP in the morning.
I have had the 4 PC's all set up with static IP's which has always worked
great (until I was forced to use DHCP in order to get the PPC-6700 to
connect).
If I start all 4 PC's then enable DHCP the PPC-6700 gets assigned an IP
and
it will connect to my WLAN just fine.
But when I shut things down for the night, the next day DHCP messes up my
network IP's (although the PPC still connects)

If I disable DHCP my network IP's are assigned correctly (statically)
but the PPC can not connect because it doesn't get assigned an IP (and I
can't set a static IP on it)

I can not find where / how to enter a Static IP for wi-fi in WM 5.0 ?
Never had a problem like this with various PPC's running WM 2002, 2003
/SE.
Also I've never had a problem running laptops with wireless cards, static
IP's (no DHCP), 802.11b/g, WPA, ect, ect.. With this SMC

Could someone tell me how to set a static IP in WM 5.0 on this PPC-6700 ?
Please !

Thank You,
PPC6700
