iPAQ5450 not recognising Home Network

I have recently set up a home network. The main computer is a desktop
running Windows XP Pro, with a cable connection to a D-Link wireless router.
A laptop running Windows XP Pro is wirelessly connected through a D-Link
PCMCIA adaptor. This part of the network works without any problems.
My iPAQ5450 running PPC 2002 connects flawlessly to the internet through the
router, and is also able to access the shared folders on the desktop
computer through File Explorer.
However it does not recognise the laptop computer at all despite the laptop
computer being readily seen and accessible by the desktop computer, and the
router recognising all three computers. In addition the Resco File Explorer
Map Drive does not show any computers, giving a "no computers found in the
network" message even though File Explorer is able to access the shared
folders of the main desktop computer.
vxUtil pings successfully to the main desktop computer but not to the laptop
computer. All the settings that I can find are identical on the two Windows
XP Pro computers, including all the Norton's firewall settings (turning off
the firewall doesn't make any difference),though my iPAQ5450 sees them very
differently.
Thank you for any suggestions.
