WEP or nothing?

I know it can interpret the encryption protocol because it prompts me
to enter details relevant to the correct protocol. i.e. if I'm runnig
WPA-PSK it will ask me for the "WPA Key". If I'm running WEP it will
prompt for the "WEP Key" etc..

It is this sort of "nearly working" symptom that had me waste about 10
hours on Sunday and several more hours since then trying to fit the
last piece of the jigsaw in place.
