Re: HP iPAQ hx4700 wifi troubleshooting

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I have a DHCP server based system, and my hx4705 works with that with no
problems. I tried a bit ago to set it up with an assigned address. My hx4705
would hot maintain the assigned IP address, through the softreset needed to
get this to work. I also went so far as to un-install the Wi-Fi companion
with no change. At this point I do not know if it is a hx4705 driver
problem, a Windows 2003 SE problem, or a Wi-Fi Companion problem. Based on
my experience it will require a hard reset to rule out Wi-Fi Companion. My
understanding of Wi-Fi Companion is that it is designed to connect to a DHCP
server. So it may be making a change within the hx4705 that prevents in from
retaining an assigned IP address.

Previous versions of Windows Mobile did support an assign IP address. You
will only run into problems if two machines have exactly the same IP
address. So If your net work consist of say Computer #1 with 192.168.3.101,
and computer #2 with 192.168.3.102 I would suggest trying 192.168.3.103 for
the hx4705. You'll need to add a DNS server address and a default gateway
address, and a subnet mask that matches the values on the other machine. For
most small LAN users who have less than 10 machines you would keep the "S"
value the same, and increase the "X" value by one for each machine in the
network. IP= SSS.SSS.SSS.SSX or

10.0.0.1 or 192.168.1.111
10.0.0.2 or 192.168.1.112
10.0.0.3 or 192.168.1.113
10.0.0.4 or 192.168.1.114
10.0.0.5 or 192.168.1.115

Hope this helps.
