IE version?

As a physician, I am able to access my hospital medical
records over the web via my hospital's home page, after
entering an assigned username and password. After
entering my password and clicking the logon icon, a new
page opens which allows me to access the records. I
tried this using the IPAQ 6315, and although it said that
because a version of IE less than v5.5 was detected and
therefore the page may not display correctly, it directed
me perfectly to the logon page. However, after entering
my password and username, nothing happened after clicking
the logon button, it was as if it was a dead link. Could
it be a problem with the browser on the IPAQ? What
version is the browser, and can it be updated? Any help
offered will be greatly appreciated.
