I assume that it is getting this via a wired connection - you cannot have an
"ad-hoc" and "restricted" simultaneously on the same wireless link. If this is
the case, then the ip address refers to your wired card, and the wireless card
will need a separate ip address, which you can (and should, if my assumptions
    are correct!) set manually.

If your pc is getting its dhcp via the wireless card, then you need to run
    everything in restricted mode.......

That should be OK, but I only have a limited amount of "hands-on" experience -
my knowledge (such as it is) has been acquired empirically...... ;-)

This sounds like its to do with not having separate ip addresses for the two
cards in your base pc........(If you have two cards)

I haven't tried active sync over the wireless connection, only via the cradle.
I ought to give it a go, but at the moment I'm trying to find some drivers for
the d**ned thing that are better than the junk its supplied with! It looks
like its a prism chipset, but intersil (the prism manufacturers) sold that
side of the business to another outfit, that changed its name to connexant,
and I can find little or no trace of any driver updates on their site - or
even much mention of the older prism chipsets! Yeech!

You can find the mac address by going to the start drop down menu, "settings",
    "system", "Wireless LAN Utility", "info".

But if you've got a connection, it sounds as if this is OK.

To summarise, and reading a bit between the lines here, it sounds as if you
have two network cards on your pc, a wired one connecting to the net (or maybe
a dsl connection?) which gets its address via dhcp, and your wireless card.
The wireless card needs its own ip address, which should be different from
your 'net connection, and will need setting manually. I suspect this is at the
    root of your difficulties.

If you are connecting to the 'net over your pc's wireless card, you cannot use
an ad-hoc connection. Ad-hoc is solely for connecting two devices. If you have
your 'net connection on the wireless card that is three connections, which
    will not work ad-hoc!

    Hope this helps!
