I suspect that we are dealing with a software problem.
I have the same problem with my new HP Ipaq 4150,
I tested with shares from Windows XP, Windows 2000 prof. and
Knoppix-Samba, all in the same subnet as the WLAN clients. My WLAN
clients: Windows 2000 prof. and Ipaa 4150. The Windows 2000 prof.
works fine with all the shares. On my Ipaq 4150 i used both File
Explorer, Total Commander and BizDev Net Use. All give me the same
result to the shares: I am not asked for userid/passwd, and therefore
i cannot see the shares, nor the shared printers.
I can connect for webpages (internet explorer), Remote Desktop (RDP).
I configured an additional DNS server on my local LAN, which workes
fine now. I can use it e.g. for my IE and Remote Desktop.
My Access Point (Netgear) does not enable me to behave as a DHCP
server, nor does it enable me to pass DHCP request. Therefor, the
IP-number of my WLAN clients are hard configured.
One other thing, except for using shares, that i can not connect: i
can nog synchronise (Active Sync) over the network. This problem is
due to the fact that my WLAN has as the name of the Actrive Sync
partner configured (i can not change it) and my client can not
translate the name of the partner to an IP-number. (My DNS does
resolve a FQN, but not a hostname; my Ipaq does not have a DNS
domainname, so does not know a FQN).
My next attempt is to configure a WINS server. If that does not work,
i'll wait. One next attempt might be to use ethereal at my WLAN
WIndows 2000 prof. client and on my Windows XP sharing PC to see which
package does arrive, and which does nog.
So far i saw many discussions on this problem, but no real solution.
regards,
Wim
