Mike,
"Internet" refers to any dotted ip address, anything that you
try to access that has a dotted ip will need to use the "internet" setting.
"Work" refers to access things via netbios names(no dots in name) and also
for active sync over wifi. You can set "exceptions" in which certain dotted
ip's can be accessed while the "work" setting is being used. This also
helps with connecting to dotted ip's on your lan over vpn. Many third party
programs ignore "internet" and "work" profiles but pocket ie, pocket
outlook, windows media player, terminal services and activesync all use
these profiles. I hope this helps.
