I had disabled the mail server updates and disconnected all bluetooth
connections except for paired devices.
I installed the latest Pocket Skype software and unfortunately my battery
went to zero with out me knowing it
As soon as I get everything back I will check the activeSync which I do
think I have setup for periodic updates.
The Skype software was able to work over WIFI with 128bit WEP enabled, not
in shared mode (no SSID) to
linksys G/A router. I likely forgot to stop the program. Back to the problem
at hand.

You would think that if the WiFi is turned off (likely HP code),
And it is not attached to the USB Cradle (it is getting power from the USB
port) and,
And if all the blue tooth stuff is off except for paired connections,
that it would not be looking to sync with the outside world.
