Maybe your problem is with XP Simple File Sharing. If so, the solution is as
follows:

1. Go to My Computer.
2. Open the Tools Menu
3. Choose Folder Options
4. Go to the View folder in the page that is opened.
5. Scroll the list to its end.
6. The last line should be something like "Use Windows Simple Sharing".
7. In case this option is checked, uncheck it.
8. Close the Window.

Now try to connect and look at a shared folder from the PPC. You should
receive a login page to which you should login with an username that is
known to the computer. After that, you are in.
