Hi folks,

Dince Infrared does use any cables, I guess this newsgroup is fine. Pardon
my PPC ignorance but I just entered this world 2 days ago!

I'm trying to connect to my ISP (Bellsouth) from my iPAQ 4155 via IrDA (aka
Infrared) through my Nokia 7210 GS with T-Mobile service.

I followed the steps described by Nokia for "Pocket PC" in the link below,
and it doesn't do anytging. The iPAQ says Dialing XXX-XXX-XXXX.... and
then It times out and the phone doesn't seem to really do anything. The
Infrared symbol on the Nokia 7210 stops flashing and turns solid (which
means IrDA connection is in progress, but about 5 seconds after the
connection appears to be established, it starts flashing again, meaning
"waiting for an IrDA conection". The PDA sits there for 120 secs (Time out
period) and the errors out.

Nokia seems to have had a specific guide for PocketPC 2002, but the link
below is dead:

http://nds1.nokia.com/phones/files/guides/N7210_and_PocketPC2002.pdf

(Both links were taken from the Nokia support site
(http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,1080,2341,00.html)

Question: has anybody been able to succesfully connect to a Cell Phone from
a PocketPC 2003 using Infrared (IrDA)? Any steps I must folllow? Any
'gotchas'?

I also tried with a Sony Ericsson T616 and it went a little farther. The
phone actually showed Dialing XXX-XXX-XXXX but immediately hung up and the
iPAQ said "no modem detected". This T616 is a co-worker's and I just used
it for the sake of testing. I'm really interested in "Nokia" connectivity"

Appreciated.

best regards,

Luis
