Thanks for the response.
I've read the answer to this post in the past and the information helped,
but wanted to add that using windows explorer to explore the mini SD card
via usb cable and smartphone, when I right click on
the folder called "Storage Card" I get the options "Expand", "Open",
"Explore", "Cut", "Copy", and "Properties" ("Paste", "Delete", and "Rename"
can also be seen but are unavailable because they are grayed out). Upon
Selecting "Properties" I get window called "Storage Card Properties". I can
only click on OK and Cancel. Where is the option to format the Storage card
and see what is the current file system being used???
Fat16 can access a storage size of up to 2 gigabytes, while Fat32 can access
a storage size of up to 2 terabytes. I'm guessing the file system is Fat16
because it does not state the current file system but it could also be Fat32
because Fat32 can easily access and use a 2 Gig storage device (remember up
to 2 terabytes).
Thanks to all who respond,
Ismael

Hello,
1. If there is a limit, it would be on the phone itself. The Windows
Mobile platform has a theoretical limit of 32GB with a FAT32 format.
Given that the technology is nowhere near this size, from an OS
perspective you should be safe. However, OEMs can limit the size which a
device will read. I know HP has done this in the past (although I think
they have abandoned the practice).
2. Again, theoretically it could read up to 32GB.
3. The file system that is used is FAT or FAT32.
4. Most cards are formatted to be read by multiple devices. However that
doesn't mean an OEM can't make their file system proprietary to their
device which would either reformat the card or it would be unreadable by a
certain device. Experimentation would probably be the best way to know
for sure.
Hope this helps,

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to decide what mini SD card I can buy for my Audiovox SMT 5600
Smartphone. The manual states that this Smartphone has Windows Mobile
Smartphone 2003 AKU2 Update, Second Edition installed.
Currently I've seen a 4 Gig mini SD card for sale and was wondering if my
Smartphone will support it. I have tired using a 512mb and 2 Gig mini SD
card and they both worked fine, but I'm unsure if the 4 GB mini SD card
will
work on this Smartphone.
Please answer the following questions:
1. Does it depend on the type of Smartphone I own or is it the operating
system installed on the Smartphone that dictates the capacity of the mini
SD
card I can use?
2. How much memory can Windows Mobile Smartphone 2003 AKU2 Update,
Second
Edition address? What is the maximum amount? The Audiovox SMT 5600
according to the manual, states the following: Memory - ROM 64 MB
(Standard), RAM 32 MB (Standard) SDRAM. I currently have a 512mb mini SD
storage/memory card.
3. What type of file system is used by Windows Mobile Smartphone 2003
AKU2
Update, Second Edition and how can I format the mini SD card to use this
file system? (Ex. Windows 95B introduced the FAT32 system. This file
allocation table system can address a hard drive that is 2 terabytes in
size)
4. Are all memory cards (In my case the mini SD card) preformatted and
do
they all use a universal file system so a digital camera, MP3 player,
Smartphone, etc. can access and share data among them without problems?
I
also have a digital camera and an MP3 player that can use the mini SD
card
(need to use the SD adaptor that came with the mini SD card). I would
like
to share the data among them by removing the mini SD card from one device
and inserting it into the next device without reformatting it each time.
Thanks to all who reply,
Ismael
