As long as the sender sends as "both html and plain text" you should get the text portions... some clients will attach the embedded images to the plain text copy.
In addtion to Clinton's suggestion, see if your email provider offers a "web based" email access... if so, it may be easiest to access your html mails through that.
Further, some providers (such as http://wap.oa.yahoo.com/raw) also offer "PDA friendly" web sites to access mail without all the fluff, java ads and frames.
