Samsung i730 dies while recharging

My Samsung i730 goes through periods (3-4 days) where at the end of a
recharge it "dies". In this case I mean that it is completely unresponsive
and needs a reset. Then it will work fine for days or weeks and then goes
back to several days of having the die on recharge problem. Of course this
is really unacceptable because once I plug it into the charger I never know
if someone calling me is going to get through.

I've tried unplugging the charger, taking the battery out of the phone, and
various other techniques to cause everything in the path to clean themselves
up. But I'm still having the problem.

Any suggestions on next steps?
