Re: HP iPAQ HX4700 connection to internet via mobile phone

Most mobile operators are now offering the GPRS access by default. GPRS is a
packet-based technology, and you're charged for what traffic you use. The
dial-up to your ISP is a circuit-switch connection, like a standard
telephone call, which uses the line all the time, and you're charged per
minute. You have to ask for this feature to be added to your account.

Because of the technology used you'll find that circuit-switched connections
will give you 9.6kbps (max of 14.4kbps if you're lucky), while GPRS will be
around 42kbps. Unless you have a plan with unlimited minutes, you'll find
out that the slower connection will be a pain to use due to its speed, and
may cost more at the end of the month.
