Re: Pocket PC WMP 9 won't play files via wireless - HELP

Tony has the answer. The network capability of a stock PPC does not include
opening a network file, whether that is a text file, word dock or wma.
You'll notice there isn't even a file open option in Media Player. I assume
you are in File Explorer with an open network share and tapping the wma to
open it. Won't work.

You can do as was suggested, trying Resco Explorer, which will give you the
capability to open files on network shares.

Incidentally opening a file on a network share is not streaming. It is
opening a file. Most home networks don't have too much congestion so this
generally works. Streaming requires a streaming server and a streaming
client (which Pocket media Player is) which negotiate transfer speeds and
buffer contents to provide continuous delivery with varying network
throughput.

You can get a free streaming server from Microsoft. It's called Windows
Media Encoder. With it you wouldn't try to access media on your PC via a
file menu, you would access it from the open URL option in your PPC media
Player. The Resco route is likely easier though.
