CreateFile Bluetooth

I hav an app which regularly uses BT comms. I have made a log file so I know
what it is doing, and every (random) now and again (usually after number of
minutes) the app does a CreateFile on the remote BT serial device and gets a
Handle (as opposed to INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE).

The remote device doesn't "see" this connection, although the Handle is
returned as valid. Then WriteFile fails with error 31 (A device attached to
the system is not functioning)

Anyone go any bright ideas about why, or how I could perhaps code "round
it"?

I have put many seconds delay all over this code to try to stop it but with
no success.

The remote end of the connection is a PC with a BT dongle and I don't have a
problem with that except from the WM5 client end. It's an iMate PDA2K,
Widcomm stack.

TIA
