Re: Retrieving the value types of the values under the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall\Microsoft CF 2.0\ExecutableFiles

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hi,

Our application is signed with privileged Test certificate...
"SDKSamplePrivDeveloper.pfx". [ certificate given by microsft for
development purpose.]

We are able to read and write any keys under Trusted registry key
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\".
Only problem is we are unable to retrieve the value type for the
value "\windows\TestApplication.exe" under the key
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall\TestApplication\ExecutableFiles".

Thanks,
sumana.

Hi,

Is your application signed for privileged execution or signed for
normal execution?
Try to use a certificate for privileged mode. Applications running
privileged can access all registry keys and all system APIs. Check out
this lab for details:

Hi,
We are using a Test Certificate provided by microsoft for
development purpose, in our program. we are able to access the key and
also
the value name except value type. The thing is when we install any
application on PPC windows mobile 5.0 devices, a key will be created
under
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall" with the Application Name.For
example i Installed TestApplication on windows mobile 5.0 device which
automatically created the key
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall\TestApplication\ExecutableFiles"
in
the registry. Under this key it creates a value with name
"\windows\TestApplication.exe"( which is the TestApplication's exe path).
For this value we are unable to find the value type.

I tried to create some values under this key
("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall\TestApplication\ExecutableFiles"
),
they were created successfully and also we can retrieve those newly
created
value names, data and their type.

Any Idea, why can't we get the value type only for that particular
value("\windows\TestApplication.exe") under this key?

Thanks,
sumana

I notice you're using WM 5.0 so my bet is that you app doesn't have the
necessary priveleges to read that key.

Hi,

We are using "RegQueryValueEx", to retrieve the value type for
the values.

It works fine for all the values under any key except the
values
under the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall\Microsoft CF
2.0\ExecutableFiles",
where the "RegQueryValueEx" gives value type as "Reg_None".

So, how can we proceed with getting the value types for the
value under the above key.

Thanks,
sumana

Hi ,
I tried to retrive the values and the type of values under the
key
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall\Microsoft CF 2.0\Executables"

"Reg_None".

How can we access the value types for values under the above
key
path?

RegQueryValueEx is the relevant Win32 function. I _think_ you want
more info than that, but you haven't been clear.

Thanks & Regards
